About us

History

The SWSHDC was formed in 1984 by a small group of driving enthusiasts who were keen to encourage and promote their mutual interest in the sport of competitive carriage driving.

In the the early days of the club members had their share of success at National Horse Driving Trials, producing several champions in the single classes.  In recent years the members proceeding to national level have declined. This is more down to the cost of travel and entry fees, as many of our drivers are still capable of producing results at the top level.

The Club runs six events each year, together with training days. Our main aim is to enjoy friendly competitions whist maintaining the the welfare of our horses and ponies, and improving the standards of driving.

We are a small club, but we have a group of willing members, and we are always keen to welcome new members to the sport.

The Club is a Limited Company and a full list of the directors can be found on the "Contact Us" page.

The Club is affiliated to  British Carriage Driving  www.britishcarriagedriving.co.uk
